Role Overview:

At Hammonds, we're on an exciting transformation journey- and as our Learning & Development (L&D) Specialist, you'll play a critical role in bringing that change to life. Reporting to the Head of Learning & Experience within our People & Culture function, you'll design and deliver high-impact learning that supports our people, partners and performance goals. 

From standout onboarding and culture programmes to knowledge systems and career pathways, you'll help embed meaningful, measurable development across the Hammonds Way. This hands-on, delivery-focused role- with no direct reports- is ideal for someone who thrives on building from the ground up, working at pace, and influencing across teams. 

As a key change agent, you'll turn strategy into action- creating learning that's practical, accessible, and built for a business evolving into something stronger, more connected, and more people-first than ever before.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and deliver high-impact, learner-centred programmes that align with business priorities and individual growth goals. 
  • Embed a culture of continuous learning by supporting self-directed development, performance readiness, and long-term capability building. 
  • Create engaging content and resources that promote adoption of digital and blended learning, enabling scalable, accessible development at all levels. 
  • Support the Head of Learning & Experience in delivering the Hammonds Academy programme, including:
  • Hammonds Way Welcomes (onboarding learning journey)
  • Culture & Values courses (behaviours that define our ways of working)
  • Leadership development (targeted programmes for managers and future leaders) 
  • Provide matrixed support to the Hammonds Academy team across programme delivery, facilitation, content development, and operational coordination. 

Knowledge Management 

  • Maintain and enhance knowledge-sharing frameworks, tools, and platforms to support the capture, organisation, and dissemination of critical business knowledge. 
  • Promote a self-serve, jun-in-time approach to knowledge access, reducing duplication and boosting efficiency across teams. 
  • Collaborate with the People & Culture team to identify knowledge gaps and drive improvements in knowledge accessibility and usability. 

Experience Design 

  • Apply human-centred design thinking to co-create intuitive, inclusive, and engaging learning and knowledge experiences. 
  • Use feedback, colleague insights, and analytics to continuously improve learning relevance and user experience. 
  • Ensure all learning touchpoints reflect our brand, values, and commitment to employee growth and engagement. 

Competency Frameworks 

  • Support the development, implementation, and evolution of role-specific and cross-functional competency frameworks. 
  • Align competencies with talent processes including performance management, recruitment, and development planning in collaboration with P&C.
  • Equip managers and employees to use frameworks effectively for coaching, feedback and career progression conversations. 

Career Pathways 

  • Assist in the design and rollout of clear, accessible career pathways that demonstrate progression, mobility, and capability development opportunities. 
  • Develop learning content that enables the use of pathways within talent reviews, development planning, and career conversations. 
  • Champion career ownership by equipping colleagues with practical tools, transparent information, and targeted growth resources.
