Shelf Styling

Earmarked as 2024’s first and biggest interior design trend, bookshelf wealth is the term for artfully curated shelves which flood your home with cosiness, charm, and character. It’s a lot to hang on simply curating your bookshelves, but this trend is described as a celebration of the items and books in your home which you love, to create a space in your home full of the things you want to be surrounded by.

Built-in bookshelves are the ideal blank canvas for the trend as they feel sturdy and secure, capturing the cosy aesthetic of bookshelf wealth and adding weight to your items.

With this blank canvas, we’ve been experimenting with three different styling techniques:

  1. Colour co-ordinated

This trend incorporates the colours from your room to create a cohesive flow between the main space and your bookshelves. If you’re using a bright accent colour in the room, mirror it in the accessories you choose for the shelves: for example, deep blue walls can be subtly matched with cobalt blue vases or sky-blue book spines.

If you want to avoid being too co-ordinated, introduce a contrasting colour to add interest and playfulness into the shelves.

  1. Purely functional

Bookshelf wealth can be channelled in by simply prioritising functionality in your shelves. If you love a book and reach for it often—stack it at a height level to your armchair or where you can easily pick it up. Once you’ve chosen your books, there’s no reason to stack them all the same way. Experimenting with vertical or horizontal stacking, pairing colours together, or different sizes, can keep the shelves from feeling too chaotic. Candles and vases of fresh flowers make for a sense of luxury, perfect when cosying up with your favourite read.

  1. Fan of a shelfie!

There’s no denying that styling and restyling your shelves is the perfect way to indulge your inner interior designer! This is your chance to indulge your ideas about colour, texture, scale, materials: try ceramic vases next to glass paperweights, dark candles next to bright white sculptures, fiery red book spines next to shiny green bowls… whatever catches your eye.
