Rustic farmhouse décor: the must-have interiors trend for summer 2025
This summer, when it comes to styling your home, escape the city and embrace all things pastoral.
This summer, when it comes to styling your home, escape the city and embrace all things pastoral. Pinterest’s 2025 Summer Trend Report revealed that rustic farmhouse décor is set to be the big interiors focus of the season.
If you want to introduce this aesthetic, here’s a look at how you can transform your living space.
If you want to bring a touch of the countryside to your home, it may be that you're being influenced by the rustic farmhouse décor trend that's sweeping into homes right now. According to the report by Pinterest, searches for ‘farmhouse cottage interiors’ were up by 370% and there was a 911% increase in searches for the term 'farm cottage aesthetic'.
While we might be craving rustic farmhouse in our home décor, it's not a new trend. Rather, this is a look that's evolved from the ‘cottagecore’ style that’s been a running theme for the past few years. But, in place of that curated approach, these interiors are more authentic, weaving natural materials and rural colours.
Here’s how to introduce this in your home.
We've seen a move towards earthy tones in the last year, and these shades work beautifully as part of a rustic farmhouse look. Begin with a neutral base of warm creams that will offset the darker tones and then you can introduce some of the baked earth colours that are also a huge design trend in 2025.
Browns, such as Mocha Mousse, Pantone's 2025 Colour of the Year, along with rich caramels work well, especially as the main colour of a sofa or window dressing. Add splashes of forest green to make this an authentic rural style.
Reclaimed materials and natural threads are all part of this fresh take on the rustic trend. An unvarnished wooden bench and clay pottery add to the grounded, earthy feel. Worn woods remove the sheen from the twee cottage aesthetic we've seen before and make this feel more country home.
However, rustic farmhouse décor does retain the natural textiles we see in cottagecore too, ensuring there's a degree of softness. Wool and linen soft furnishings and woven baskets are beautiful additions. But industrial stone details or aged iron hardware can be incorporated to create contrast and introduce a twist to the homely cottage look.
As well as clashing natural materials, merge the past with the present. Start by introducing pieces that have a past to your home. Source vintage and upcycled pieces, such as repurposed benches and stools to add character and make your living space unique.
From there, you can combine these with modern furniture. For instance, built-in storage that slots seamlessly into the room can be particularly effective. A custom alcove wardrobe or cupboard can maximise the space you have while complementing this rustic style.
Here are some more additions to your modern rustic farmhouse décor look:
· Limewashed walls – these create a truly authentic finish.
· Exposed beams – if your property has exposed beams, this is the perfect time to make these a highlight of your home.
· Timber – from light fittings to decorative pieces, timber details are the perfect way to round out this trend.
