We might have just returned from a long Easter break, but with all the bank holidays coming up this year there’s no better excuse to plan some relaxing getaways. But in a world where every inch of space in your luggage counts, mastering the art of efficient packing is a valuable skill. Whether you're jetting off somewhere sunnier or embarking on a staycation closer to home, the last thing you want is to arrive at your destination only to find your carefully selected outfits wrinkled—especially when there’s no iron in sight.
Rather than reaching for a hot shower and praying the steam makes the creases drop slightly (has this ever worked well for anyone?), we’ve covered 3 of our favourite techniques to keep clothes ready-to-wear.
Loosely rolling clothes, rather than folding, prevents wrinkle-causing pressure against your items. Keeping your clothes loosely rolled also limiting how much they can move around in your luggage during your travel—another reason for those pesky creases.
An underrated method of storing clothes for travelling to keep wrinkles at bay, is the art of bundle wrapping. If you’ve not seen this before, let us introduce you to this method which has become our staple for short weekend trips! Bundle wrapping involves laying your delicate or wrinkle-prone clothes on the outside, with the items that are near-impossible to crease nestled in the centre. A blazer, which can often end up crumpled at the bottom of your bag if not careful, is a perfect way to bundle wrap due to its large surface area. Layer your wrinkle-resistant items, such as jeans or leggings, in the centre, and begin to work outwards depending on how easy they crease. When all your outfits are layered in the blazer, simply fold this around the bundle and pop into your travel bag. By curving the outer layers around the bundle, you create a protective barrier against creases, ensuring that your outfits emerge from your travel bag in impeccable condition.
But our usual go-to method for travelling? Throwing it into a bag and going—because that holiday feeling is too good to wait for.
If you’re usually wrestling with overstuffed suitcases and unwieldy piles of clothing, let us know over on Instagram if you’re giving the loose roll or bundle wrap a try on your next trip (or whether you’re still committed to the speed packing and hoping for the best!).
