How to rearrange your bedroom
We all need a bit of a refresh in life sometimes. A few new meals added to the weekly menu. Something new to watch on TV. A change of layout at home or in the garden. It's amazing what a quick revamp can do, especially in the places where you spend the most time.
If your bedroom isn't doing what it needs to or you're tired of seeing the same four walls every morning and night, it sounds like it's time for change. Read on for some tips, inspiration and ways to rearrange your bedroom.
Plan before you start
As tempting as it is to jump right in, it's always a good idea to plan first. Sketch some layouts to help you visualise the floor plan and your ideas for reimagining the space. You may also want to measure your bedroom. There's no point wasting time and energy moving something that won't fit elsewhere.
Consider your routines, what you want more of and what you don't need any more. Could you add a reading nook, space for a yoga mat or another chest of drawers? Do you want more natural light shining on the bed in the morning? Is it time to part ways with some of your old furniture?
It might take a few goes before you've got something worth trying but you may also have a few different configurations to test. On to the next step…
Don't be afraid to experiment
Sketches and plans will only take you so far – the proof is well and truly in the pudding. Start moving things around in line with your plans and don't be afraid to play around with different configurations while you're doing it.
See how different perspectives make you feel and what putting furniture in different positions brings to the room. Something might click straight away or you might need a few different ideas for rearranging your bedroom before something does.
Try a little decluttering
It's always worth decluttering when you're having a little refresh at home, whatever room you're working on. With less 'stuff' filling your bedroom, you'll be able to get a real idea of how you can use the space better.
This could be anything from old clothes and shoes to unwanted bits of furniture. Maybe the answer isn't getting rid of things but, instead, finding better ways to store them. Additions like over bed wardrobes could help you fit more storage in without taking up precious floor space.
Swap out furniture
Moving around furniture or replacing units is likely to make the biggest difference when you're looking for ways to rearrange your bedroom. If you can move them safely, try the biggest pieces (things like beds and wardrobes) in new positions. Put them against opposing walls, if that's an option, or turn them to experiment with different angles.
Adding new furniture could inspire more transformative and meaningful changes. Custom-built furniture allows you to unlock the full potential of your bedroom, far better than any off-the-shelf units.
Fitted wardrobes can be crafted for the contours of your room, including any awkward spaces like alcoves and sloping ceilings. This could make a practical and stylish addition to your bedroom.
Make the best use of natural light
Whatever your ideas for rearranging your bedroom, try to maximise the presence and impact of natural light. It should help to make smaller spaces feel more spacious and open and give you a brighter start when you wake up in the morning.
Avoid shrouding windows with too much furniture. Let the light in and help it spread around the room with strategically placed mirrors. While you're thinking about natural light, consider if a different colour scheme could benefit the look and feel of your room, too.
