Celebrating Wimbledon with strawberries and cream:

The weather may have been disappointing so far, but if there’s one summer highlight we know we can count on every year… it’s strawberries and cream served at Wimbledon as a staple of the English summer.

Fresh fruit and light cream have been a perfect match for nearly 150 years, having been served at the first Wimbledon tournament in 1877. These days, around 190,000 portions are eaten every year! With this long a history, we couldn’t resist making our own version over on Moments this week.

The traditional Wimbledon strawberries and cream recipe calls for ripe strawberries accompanied by a dollop of fresh cream. The combination of juicy strawberries with rich, velvety cream is a perfect summer dessert or quick snack for family picnics. It’s a reminder that sometimes, the most straightforward things in life bring the most joy. We’ve opted for a drizzle of double cream with ours!

Here’s two of our favourite ways to celebrate Wimbledon at home:

  1. Create a Wimbledon Viewing Nook: Watching Wimbledon from the courtside is a once in a lifetime experience… but nothing beats settling down on the sofa to watch the matches from the comfort of your own home.

  1. Host a Wimbledon-Inspired Garden Party: Celebrate the tournament with a garden party. Serve strawberries and cream as the star dish, accompanied by other British favourites. Anyone for a Pimms?

Will you be enjoying strawberries and cream this year?
