A Guide to Introducing Bold Colours into Your Home

 

In the world of interior design, colour has the power to transform your space from mundane to magnificent. Colour (alongside patterns and textures) is an incredible tool to inject your personality into your home, creating an environment which is truly yours. But if, like many homeowners, renters, and interior design enthusiasts, you find yourself reaching for the familiar and trustworthy tin of magnolia paint when it comes to freshening up your space—we’re here to guide you through your colour journey. Switching out a cushion or two is the interior design equivalent of dipping your toe into a pool to check the temperature before diving in. The best part is the pool in this scenario doesn’t involve getting your hair wet or shivering after your swim… instead, we’re dipping a toe into the world of colour, fabrics, textures, and patterns to find out if there’s anything out there that we would love to include in our homes. By simply switching out cushions, it’s a low commitment change which we can easily reverse while being cost-effective. At this stage, we’re simply experimenting to find our favourite colours and how they look against what we already own.  

 

If you’ve found some key colours or patterns you’d like to include throughout your home, the next stage is to get playful. Try mixing throws and cushions with different patterns and textures to see the effects you create. If you’re looking for a calm and restful home, then we recommend pairing similar colours for a harmonious atmosphere. However, if you’re looking for drama then clashing patterns creates striking contrasts!

 

For the especially bold colour enthusiasts among us (it’s a slippery slope from switching out cushions!), we love colour drenching. This involves picking one colour and painting everything on the walls to match… Yes, even the ceiling isn’t safe from our paintbrushes. Blue is one of 2024’s colours to watch, so if you want to double up on trends then colour drenching your room in a rich cobalt shade is the perfect way to make your interiors Insta-worthy.
